ABOUT THE MARKETS
Established by Lt-Col. John By in 1826, the ByWard Market is one of Canada’s oldest and largest public markets. It is open 363 days a year, closed only on Christmas and New Year's Day.
The ByWard Market is one of Ottawa’s main tourist attractions and is the premier destination for shopping, dining, arts, entertainment and professional services for residents and visitors.
This area averages 50,000 visitors per weekend in the summer months.
It features both farm products and artisans goods, as well as over 600 independent businesses in the general business area.
Established in July of 1924. Every year, from the months of April to October, Parkdale Market vendors offer fresh produce, flowers, plants and shrubs to area residents seven days a week from early May to early November. The late season period from Nov. 24 until Dec. 24, features Christmas trees and decorative wreaths.
